Clark/Dixon Architects

Memphis–Shelby County Airport Authority

Background

The $160 million Memphis International Airport renovation included new themed and color-coded wayfinding and signage systems developed to improve traffic flow to and within the airport. Clark/Dixon provided local expertise and perspective on city and state codes, ADA regulations, and overall aesthetic design considerations. This was the first of several master planning projects Clark/Dixon participated in for the Authority. As part of the project, the firm served as liaison between Burlingame, Calif.-based Jacobs Consultancy and the Airport Authority, providing local perspective during the creation of the 10-year FAA Master Plan update for the future of the Memphis Airport. The first major project under construction is the Consolidated Ground Transportation Center. Clark/Dixon provided wayfinding and signage for the new 3,500-car parking garage and renovated existing garage. The firm also provides on-site construction administration for the Airport Authority ensuring the Master Plan to become “America’s Aerotropolis” is implemented.
